LMA launches Charter to support improvement in market culture

New framework includes expectations of behaviour at LMA events

The Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) today launched its Charter which was unanimously approved by the LMA Board in July 2022.

The Charter is aligned with the LMA’s five values; inclusive, trusted, passionate, bold and united and outlines the LMA’s expectations of the behaviours of its members and guests. It establishes a common framework to enable all individuals to feel respected, equal, and comfortable in sharing their opinions, while continuing to encourage innovation and exchange of views in pursuit of market improvement. The Charter also sets the rules for the LMA to deal with instances where behaviours do not meet outlined expectations.

The LMA is also providing training to the Chairs and secretaries of its committees on using the Charter to enhance the participation and output of those committees.

Over 2,500 individuals connect through the LMA via its committees, groups, panels, and forums, and more than 10,000 individuals participate in LMA presentations or Academy programmes each year. The Charter will support the LMA in promoting appropriate workplace culture, and diversity and inclusion in the Lloyd’s marketplace thereby reinforcing its position as the world-leading insurance hub for complex risks.

Sheila Cameron, LMA’s CEO, said: “The LMA and its members believe in inclusive cultures.  We therefore wish to make unambiguously clear the values and conduct expected of members of the LMA to create a culture that we can all be proud of.

“Whilst our market has made significant progress, this is a topic which requires constant and rigorous attention. The London market has and will continue to evolve its culture for the better, and the LMA is determined to make that cultural shift both rapid and permanent.”
