Connections - Young Professionals Newsletter

May 2018

Welcome to 'Connections' - the LMA's newsletter for young professionals in the Lloyd's and London market.

Top Tips for being an Effective Leader
As a young professional you may feel that you do not have the experience and tenure to be a leader, or perhaps worry that those around you won’t believe it. But leadership shouldn’t have anything to do with how old you are, it’s about vision, your drive and your attitude. So for anyone aspiring to be a young leader, or a more effective one, here are our top tips.

Young Professional Profile: Jamie Garratt
Jamie spent a year in finance before moving into insurance and joining the Talbot graduate scheme in 2009. He then joined the Upstream Energy team in London for two years before moving to the Talbot office in Dubai in 2012. He returned to London in 2015 and in 2016 Jamie began working on Talbot’s innovation initiatives which led to his appointment as Head of Digital Underwriting Strategy.

Play your part in the Future of the London Market
Teresa Bentley, Head of Talent at LMG, talks about London Insurance Life (@LIL), a talent engagement campaign designed to bring together young people considering their career options with people who already work in the market, through targeted careers events and social media.

  Young Professionals Champion List
One of the things we are looking at is how to communicate and share committee information more widely across job roles and make sure it is accessible to all practitioners, not only leadership. We have therefore started to produce a Young Professional Champion List.
