Lloyd’s Market Association Elects New Chairman

Neil Maidment, Chief Underwriting Officer, Beazley Plc, has been elected chairman of the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA), the body which represents the interests of the Lloyd’s managing and members’ agency community.

Mr Maidment, who has served on the LMA Board as a member since 2011, succeeds Rupert Atkin, Chief Executive Officer, Talbot Underwriting Ltd, who will be stepping down from the chairman’s role at the end of the year.

Mr Maidment said: “I am honoured to have been appointed Chairman of the LMA and look forward to the opportunity to build on Rupert’s excellent work in recent years, to encourage joint services to make the market more efficient and to ensure that the market’s views are represented.

“At a time when market conditions are increasingly challenging and longer-term issues such as access to business and operating efficiency demand attention, the LMA plays a vital role providing technical support to the underwriting community and bringing market participants together to influence debate on Lloyd’s strategy.”

David Gittings, Chief Executive of LMA, said:  “I am delighted  to welcome Neil as our new chairman.  With more than 30 years’ experience in the market, he is well placed to provide a clear view on how the LMA can continue to best serve the interests of its members.

“I would like to thank our outgoing chairman Rupert for the invaluable contribution he has made during his tenure.”
