About MUA membership
Full membership of the LMA is restricted to Lloyd’s Managing Agents, and funding is rated on a market share basis, derived from gross premium written via the Lloyd’s platform. However, there are a few motor insurers that are connected to Lloyd’s who write their motor business on an alternative platform. This creates a potential difficulty re funding – in that non-Lloyd’s motor premium is not reflected in the LMA subscription. Specifically to overcome this issue the LMA set up a virtual association in 2002 called the Motor Underwriters’ Association, which sits parallel to the LMA, with identical articles of membership etc, and LMA Motor Committees (other than Lloyd’s specific ones) are Joint LMA/MUA Committees. Current MUA membership includes QBE, Heritage/Trinity and Markerstudy. MUA members are charged a flat rate for annual membership.
