This programme is aimed at those handling claims who have up to three years’ experience of insurance. Experience of working in a claims team is helpful, but not mandatory.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The ability to make a claim on an insurance policy is the promise made by insurers when they sell their product, irrespective of the class of business and whether the product is insurance or reinsurance. The service provided at the point of a claim is what the client remembers, and whilst keeping customers at the centre of the business is important, paying every claim is not an obvious path to business success. 

This programme will provide delegates with a greater understanding of how the claims team forms part of the overall business, as well as providing guidance on technical claims handling at an individual claim level. 

Over eight half-day modules, delegates will discuss both the bigger picture concepts of how and where claims fit into the wider organisation, as well as considering matters that impact on day-to-day claims handling such as expert management, reserving, strategic claims handling and managing others’ expectations.
 
Attendees will learn about:

  • the purpose of the claims function within an insurer and the role of the claims philosophy 
  • the skills needed in claims team and how they might be organised 
  • a refresh on the contract made and the relevance to claims handling
  • reserving and the importance of a reserving philosophy 
  • managing others expectations and the importance of communications of all types 
  • expert choice, instruction and management 
  • the use and relevance of data 
  • how disputes arise and how they can be managed and resolved 
  • how regulation both in the UK and abroad impacts on day to day claims handling.

The final module will be a claims practical workshop that will allow the delegates to consider and discuss strategies in relation to specific claims scenario.

This programme has been designed by the LMA Academy in conjunction with Sarnia Training and GreenSky Claims. Market feedback has been sought and the LMA Claims Committee has worked with the suppliers to enhance the content and format. It is part of a suite of programmes to support claims professionals in the market.

PRESENTERS

This programme is run by Charlotte Warr from Sarnia Training and Ben Robins from GreenSky Claims.
