Time: 15.00 - 16.00
Event: Microsoft Teams - joining details will be sent to registered attendees 24 hours prior to event

AUDIENCE

Liability underwriters, claims specialists and legal professionals.

DESCRIPTION

As part of the LMA's series of emerging risk events, this session will explore how the addiction to video games and social media is the result of a booming industry that targets users through monetisation schemes.

The harmful impact of addiction has subsequently led to serious allegations and emerging litigation.

This fascinating presentation will outline the background and allegations, with reference to occurrence case law for both social media and video game addiction scenarios. The session will also discuss the lessons learnt from the opioid crisis and what this means for insurers.

Members will leave the session with:

  • the key terms and definitions of addiction claims
  • unique insight into technology addiction, exploring some medical evidence and how the alleged harms have developed
  • an understanding of how the emerging allegations have developed and how the legal environment is reacting
  • an overview of the experience from other addiction crises and how these developments will impact insurers.
