Marine Committee

The LMA Marine Committee is the senior marine committee, comprising six elected members plus the senior Lloyd’s representative from each of the Joint Committees. Richard Tomlin of Atrium is the new chairman, succeeding Andrew Voke who remains on the committee. Current issues

The following is a brief summary of the meeting on 6 December:

  • Qatarlyst - the committee was briefed on the strategic governance initiative by LMA/IUA/LIIBA to produce a system of governance for any electronic platform used in the market. The three main areas were governance, costs and underwriter requirements.
  • The first sponsorships were being firmed up for the IUMI conference to be held in London in September 2013
  • Claims from Sandy had highlighted the unexpected nature of the surge
  • The JHC's letter on Pilotage Exemption was being used by Lord Berkely in his attempts to halt the bill in the House of Lords
  • ICS had invited a small number of market representatives to an Iran briefing given by two admirals.

LMA Marine Forums

The forums provide an opportunity for the Joint Chairs to update the market on the wide range of work being undertaken by the Joint Committees. If any underwriter would like an issue raised at Committee level, please let either the relevant Chairman or secretary know.

The government is undertaking further consultation with industry before deciding whether to sign the proposed Rotterdam Rules and this comparison of cargo conventions may be useful.
