Untangling the tech web

The LMA Academy has hosted its inaugural emerging technology masterclass, ‘Blockchain Decoded’, the first in a series of events aimed to educate the Lloyd’s market on a range of topics from artificial intelligence and robotics to the internet of things, delivered in straightforward terms for non-specialists.

The session, ‘Blockchain Decoded’ was hosted by Beazley’s in-house entrepreneur and blockchain evangelist, Walid Al Saqqaf. The masterclass explained blockchain by comparing and contrasting current arrangements and focussed on how it can positively impact insurance through distributed ledgers, improved data and smart contracts.

Charlotte Myers, LMA Academy and market talent development director said: “Having attended tech-related events before and looked around at a sea of blank expressions, it was genuinely satisfying to see smiling faces as the penny dropped.

“Our series of masterclasses demonstrate our commitment to demystifying the many facets of new technology which are likely to change the way the Lloyd’s market will operate in the future along with educating our members, both of which are essential in ensuring the market’s future success. The enthusiasm of the market and the positive feedback from this event was very encouraging.”
