Joint Liability Committee

The JLC is taking a close interest in the proposed changes to OPA which have been suggested in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon loss.

Tim Taylor of BLG has noted that 65% of the notionally marine insurance cases reaching the high court were subject to significant (and therefore expensive) avoidable disputes over the choice of law or jurisdiction.

Stephen Barr chairs IUMI’s Legal and Liability Committee; Colin Sprott is also a member of that committee.

The review of Welcar Section 2 is ongoing in conjunction with the JRC review of Welcar. 

The Joint Liability Committee (JLC) comprises underwriting representatives from both the Lloyd’s and IUA company markets. It represents the interests of those writing marine liability and related risks within the London market and usually meets every other month.
